  • North Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
  • One to one tuition
  • Make and keep your very own hand-thrown pot that has been neatened up and is watertight
  • Experiences for two by arrangement
  • Flexible time and days
  • Calming atmosphere
  • Taught in working home ceramics studio
  • Pot completed in three sessions
  • Duration for an individual's session is about 4 hours in total

What can I expect?

The process to make a pot is in three parts.

Session 1 (1.5 hour)

Firstly, you will watch the art of throwing a pot while drinking a tea or coffee with a chocolate biscuit. During the demonstration I will go through each movement to explain what I’m doing and why, but don’t panic, when it’s your turn on the wheel I will go through everything again so that you feel comfortable. We will make one pot together and if this takes a couple of attempts, that’s no problem at all. This session usually lasts for an hour and a half on a one to one basis. Experiences for two people can be arranged as well, these will last around two hours.

Session 2 (1.5 hours)

The second part of the process happens a few days later, when the pot has had a chance to dry out a bit. Your pot will be put upside down on the wheel and the excess clay will be carved off to create a ‘foot’ and you’ll stamp it with your name for the finishing touch. Your pot will then be left to completely dry out before being fired. In this session I will ask you what glaze you’d like to use so that I can ensure your favourite glaze is available. You can choose any of the colours that have been in any of my colour palette colours, past and present, totalling in approximately 20 different colours.

Session 3 (1 hour)

The third and final session will be where you add colour to your pot and make it watertight. The glaze will be applied with soft paintbrushes and 3 layers will be applied in total. After this session your pot will be fired again and then you can either collect your pot or have it posted to you.

And finally, go home and repot your plant into it’s new home!
