Make a Mug - Individual Pottery Experiences

Regular price £150.00

I am so excited to announce that have I started up my pottery experiences again with social distancing measures in place (see more information below). Please get in touch to book your space!

If you’re as picky as I am when it comes to choosing a mug to drink your chosen hot beverage from, then come and learn how to make your very own mug to your exact specifications and make your new favourite mug!

To do this course you don’t need to have any previous experience.

  • North Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
  • One to one tuition
  • Make and keep your very own hand-thrown mug
  • Experiences for two by arrangement
  • Flexible time and days
  • Calming atmosphere
  • Taught in working home ceramics studio
  • Mug completed in three sessions
  • Duration for an individual's session is about 5 hours in total
  • Your back-up mug base will be turned into a plant pot by FICHceramics

Session 1 (2 hours):

Whilst relaxing in the incense infused studio with a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits, you will watch a demonstration given by me. During this, I will go through every movement explaining what I am doing and why. After this, it will be your turn on the wheel, you don’t need to panic though because I will go over everything again to make sure you feel comfortable knowing you’re doing it right. In this session you will throw 2 mug bases to ensure you have a mug at the end to take home at the end.

Session 2 (3 hours):

This session will need to be completed a week after session 1, this allows your mug bases to dry out sufficiently for the next stage. Firstly, you will pick your favourite base to make into a mug. We will then turn (carve excess clay off of the bottom) this base and attach your handle making it into a mug. You will be taught how to ‘pull’ your handles (if you would like to see how this works, follow this link to go to YouTube) this method ensures that you mug will be very comfortable to hold as the dimples created during the process make the perfect thumb rest. At this stage you can stamp your name at the base and add a date too. The other mug base, now plant pot, will turned by FICHceramics whilst you’re finishing off your mug.

Session 3 (30 minutes):

The final session is where we add colour to your mug and make it watertight with glaze. In the previous session, session 2, we will discuss what colour glaze you would like. The choice will be out of all of my colour palette colours, past and present, totalling in approximately 20 different colours, so that I can ensure your favourite glaze is available. Using the soft brushes, I use for painting on glazes for my work you will carefully add the colour(s) you would like to your mug. FICHceramics will glaze your plant pot at the same time as you’re glazing your mug, in the colour of your choice. After this session your mug and plant pot will be fired a second time and you can then collection your mug and plant pot or they can be posted to you.

Social distancing measures;

I am so excited to announce that I have started my pottery experiences up again! There will be social distancing measures in place to ensure you feel safe and relaxed during your experience. There will be sufficient time between each pottery experiences, everyone in the studio will need to wear a mask at all times, there will also be hand sanitiser which will need to be used when you arrive for your experience. Everyone, including myself will need to do a lateral flow test minimum 30 minutes before your pottery experience. During this time, there will not be any hot beverages or biscuits provided but you are more than welcome to bring a drink with you. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
